Background: This boil started as a way for a group of us as Richmond transplants to get back together at least once a year in a city we love. Now, with the city having given so much to us, we're excited to continue to give back a little as well. A few of us had been introduced to Church Hill Activities and Tutoring over the past few years from UofR, from work, and from each other - they are an organization that for the past 16 years has worked directly with youth in the East End to provide tutoring programs, a supportive community, and ongoing opportunities for future success. Having helped over 500 kids in the area, we couldn't be more excited to do our small part to support their efforts while good friends get together for good food.
Last year, we held an incredible boil that raised thousands of dollars for CHAT - money that is going towards transforming lives in the Richmond communitry. We're excited to be supporting CHAT again this year for the 4th Annual Crawfish Boil.
CHAT Overview: Church Hill Activities and Tutoring (CHAT) is a system of integrated programs that empower aspiring youth to break the cycles of poverty and reach for their goals. Since 2001, more than 500 Church Hill youth have been served by the organization. CHAT believes in the power of community and fellowship to transform lives, and ultimately, the community. We establish strong connections through learning and enrichment activities in a safe and secure environment to ensure future success. By working one-on-one with families and children, CHAT sets the stage for reconciliation and justice for all.
