Please join the Malawi Washington Foundation (MWF) for the #4MalawianGirlsEdu campaign as we raise funds for comprehensive girls’ education in Malawi. When you educate a girl, you educate a nation - a well-known African proverb that has motivated people worldwide to strive for education for all. Yet in Malawi, only 6% of girls graduate from high school; 2.9% go on to attain post-secondary education and training; 46% of girls are married before the age of 18; and 9% are married before the age of 15 (UNICEF). The cost of secondary education is one of the reasons for Malawi’s high drop-out rates. The COVID-19 pandemic and related school closures have exacerbated the dropout rate.
Malawian schools will reopen in October 2020 and we are urgently appealing to you for your donation for educational support (including tuition, room and board, transportation, books, and other learning resources) for 50 students, at the secondary and tertiary levels.
As a tax-exempt, not-for-profit organization whose vision is to improve and strengthen the lives of vulnerable families and communities to enable them to become successful contributors of society, the MWF has supported the educational needs of more than 15 scholars in Malawi at various stages in their academic journey, some of whom have attained university and other tertiary qualifications. This would not have been possible without the generous contributions of our supporters and dedication and hard work of our scholars, all of whom come from marginalized communities.
However, the need has always been far greater than we have been able to meet. Please help the Malawi Washington Foundation ensure that more Malawian girls and their communities reach their fullest potential by donating to the #4MalawiGirlsEducation campaign. Contributions of any amount are cherished. We must act immediately and collectively since the 2020-2021 academic will soon start. If you cannot contribute at this time, please let others know about this important initiative.
The Malawi Washington Foundation (MWF), a 501(c)(3) organization based in Washington, DC was launched in 2013. The Foundation’s vision is to improve and strengthen the lives of vulnerable families and communities to enable them to become successful contributors of society. MWF partners with the Forum for African Women Educationalists Malawi Chapter (FAWEMA) to implement our education program in Malawi, ensure follow-up with our scholars and accountability of every donation received. Additionally, all students are vetted, with FAWEMA working alongside the Ministry of Education to verify the students’ academic potential and family situation.
