Camptown is a fantastic program for developing confidence and leadship skills in today's youth. Camptown provides outdoor adventure and nature experiences for kids that they may not otherwise get to enjoy for whatever reasons. Here's a breakdown of the situation some of these kids come from:
• 62% come from impoverished homes
• 39% live in a single parent household
• 96% recieved financial aid from camptown
I was first introduced to Camptown via volunteering through my work place for their "Day of Wonders" camp a few years ago. I helped a couple other coworkers man a fishing station and a group of kids every so often would come by and catch fish. It was neat watching their reactions as fish would start biting or as they eventually landed a fish.
Camptown is doing something special for these kids that touches on something I think I wanted to do towards the end of my college career. I wanted to establish a place for at risk youth on a farm that would instill character and life skills. I never persued it for whatever reason or excuse I made for myself at the time. I want to help Camptown by raising $4000 this year to help send kids on outdoor adventures. For such adventures, there are costs involved:
• $150 to introduce a child to the outdoors via an overnight camping experience
• $500 per child for a week long backpacking adventure
My goal is to provide a weeklong experience for 8 youth. Over 3,000 youth have been served and 90% said they would recommend a Camptown adventure to a friend.
Please consider helping me as I run 40 Miles, on Oct 29th (my 40th birthday!) in an effort to raise money for this great cause!
