Dear family and friends,
For the first time, on May 4th -- just a few days shy of my 65th birthday -- I am participating in the 50-mile "Rock The Ridge" 24-hour relay to raise money for the Mohonk Preserve, where I am a member of the Board. My leg of the relay will be 13 miles and 1100 vertical feet.
One of my motivations is that I love the land under the Preserve's care and the adjacent state park and Mohonk Mountain House. (I've even composed a movement of a composition-in-progress inspired by one of my favorite hikes in the area to a special viewpoint called Gertrude's Nose.) Another is to get out and celebrate turning 65 in a meaningful way.
The Mohonk Preserve protects over 8,000 acres of spectacular ridgeland in the Hudson Valley's Shawangunk Mountains that the Nature Conservancy calls “one of Earth's last great places.” See my own photos above plus the Preserve's website for more photos and information: https://www.mohonkpreserve.org/.
Mohonk Preserve educators introduce the wonders of nature to thousands of children in underserved communities.
With over 100 miles of carriage roads and single-track trails, the Preserve offers superb running, hiking, biking and cross-country skiing. It is also home to some of the best rock climbing in the East.
Our research center, with 115 years of continuous records, is providing crucial information to help scientists understand the impact of climate change.
Please consider making a contribution to support my effort and to help insure that my 4-member relay team comprised of AARP-eligible Board members (!) earns a $20,000 match from another Board member. To make a donation, go to https://www.crowdrise.com/o/en/campaign/4-on-the-floor/jonathanchenette.
With warm regards and heartfelt appreciation for your support,
