If you've crossed our paths you know us. It's easy to tell. We are all-in kind of women. We go after it full force. We spend very little time sitting still and if there's a challenge we say "sign me up". That's just the kind of women we are. But someone along the way showed us that's okay. That's something to be proud of. They handed us the ball, signed us up for the team, put the harness on us and said go for it. So many young girls miss that chance. Be it social stigmas or economic reasons the future female greats can be lost and never realize how great they can be. We want to help change that.
So here's our challenge. In 25 hours we will traditionally climb 25 pitches in our beloved Shawangunks (the Gunks) and hike 25 miles of the infamous Devils Path* in the Catskills with. Why 25 you ask? Well our one and only fierce Alayna is celebrating the completion of her 25th year on this earth. And like I said before if it's a challenge we're in.
To show our appreciation to all those along the way that taught us to think big and just go for it we will be raising money to give that same opportunity to other young girls. The Woman's Sports Foundation is just that type of charity. Since 1974 they have dedicated themselves to making sport accessible to all young girls. Through grants, research, leadership and school programs they are helping to create stronger, healthier and happier girls.
Help us to create that next generation of fierce women!
Traditional (trad) climbing: a style of rock climbing in which a climber places all gear required to protect against falls, and removes it when the climb is complete.
Pitch: A section of a climbing route between two belay stations.
*The Devils Path is a 23.1 mile trail traversing 5 peaks of the Catskills Mountains. We will be adding on additional peaks/mileage to reach 25 miles.
Weather permitting, we anticipate to complete the challenge October 28th/29th.
