We all came to Samaritans for different reasons. Some of us were looking to gain experience, others were considering a career change and still others were looking to give back. But whatever brought us here, we stay because we are deeply committed to making a meaningful impact in our community.
So many people talk about changing the world, but you show up every week and take action. What’s more is that you do it behind the scenes.
Your work provides people in distress with immediate support from a caring and sensitive individual who is non-judgmental, takes their problems seriously and treats them with respect.
Never under-estimate what that can mean to someone who feels isolated and overwhelmed and doesn’t know where to turn or who to trust.
It’s not often we get the opportunity to share the work we do with the people in our lives and to include them in this cause, which is so important to us.
Very few people understand the nature of Samaritans work and the unique and essential role our hotline plays in strengthening NYC’s safety net, especially for those who are depressed, in crisis and suicidal.
So I’m asking you to join me this year at Samaritans 7th Annual Walk to Prevent Suicide! Help Samaritans get the message out about the invaluable service you help to provide and share this cause with your friends and family!
