CAMPAIGN UPDATE: We have increased our fundraising goal to $15,000 to provide an additional three scholarships for a total of 15 refugee youth scholarships for 2021!
Each year, the IRC in San Diego awards scholarships of $500 - $2,500 to refugee youth entering their first year at a two- or four-year college or university. This year we will also be making awards to students transitioning into a GED program to finish their primary education. You can make a difference in these exceptional students’ lives and recognize their incredible achievements with your contribution to the 2021 Youth Scholarship Fund.
This past year has been incredibly challenging for all students, and even more so for refugee youth who have often experienced intermittent access to formal education prior to arriving in the US and are working hard to catch up.
As students exit high school, whether they are going on to college or a GED program, there are often huge financial hurdles that can prevent them from pursuing the higher education goals they dream of: the cost of an education – tuition, books, transportation, food -- and the competing need to earn money to help support their parents and siblings.
Our goal is to raise $15,000 by June 15th which will be awarded as scholarships to help students with these costs. Awards will be made in mid June 2021 and all donors will be invited to join the virtual awards ceremony.
