2018 was my first year to run the iconic Tulsa Run 15k. I was told that part of what makes the event so fun is that a bunch of people wear costumes as the event is always close to Halloween. So naturally, I showed up with my banana costume on race day. As it turns out, a vast majority of runners wear costumes for the 5k and not so much the 15k… but I rocked the banana costume the whole race anyway. My claim to fame is being the fastest banana in Tulsa.
Having been inspired by this happenstance, I decided to begin running the race annually in a banana costume for charity. If we raise at least $500 I will run the Tulsa Run in a banana costume in support of the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma. Two years ago we hit $550, so lets see if we can beat that!
Food insecurity is a huge issue in Tulsa and in the state of Oklahoma and is something that Shiraya and I are passionate about fighting. No child should struggle to do homework because they cannot focus due to not having a meal for dinner. Let's fight hunger in our community!
