In 1992, Greater Hope Christian Academy began. The dream behind it was for people all across the city of Philadelphia to have a safe place to worship and learn. Today that dream has been realized many times over. We are not only a church but also teach pre-school through adult-aged students, have monthly food drives, and serve our community in many other ways. Everything that we are able to do has been by the grace of GOD. it has been far from easy but, even though the pandemic we have and will continue to serve GOD and serve our community. Greater Hope is more than a school, a church, or even a community, it is a family.
Throughout this year our children have faced the stresses of the pandemic and the many other pressing issues of the world and despite that, they have endured. One student, however, has really stood out and shown a lot of grit: Semij Jackson. We have been blessed to have Semij since he was a young child. He began with us as a student in our Pre-K Counts program and in June will be graduating and moving on to college. Not only has he stayed on top of his studies, but he has served as a role model. Semij is a source of kindness and light for everyone that he encounters. He always brings with him a smile and something funny to say. His absolute passions are basketball and scholarship. This is no exaggeration; he is always the first person to raise his hand in class and the last person to step off of the court. Outside of school, he serves his family dedicating much of his time to taking care of his grandmother AND holds a job. Often times he works 20+ hours a week. As you can see in this picture he works VERY hard. With all of this on his plate, he NEVER misses an assignment OR an opportunity to help his community.
As we come to the end of Semij's journey as a student with us, we would like to bless him with one final gift. The cost of education rises every year and things are already very tight for Semij and his family even with the money that he brings in from working. We would like to raise for him $50,000 to cover help with tuition, fees, books, and other college expenses. Please us help him to do this for him.
Any funds raised over our goal will be used to assist other students.
