The past 12 months have been unlike anything the country and the world have ever experienced. The global pandemic has brought pain and suffering to so many people. From the loss of loved ones, to the loss of employment, there isn’t anyone out there who hasn’t been directly impacted, or that doesn’t know someone who has been.
On top of the pandemic, the past 12 months have reminded us of how far we have to go on the journey to racial and gender equity.
There is one group of Americans who have been the most negatively impacted by all that the last 12 months has delivered- single, mothers of color. They know all too well the heartache, suffering and death brought on by the pandemic, and the unemployment and economic problems that followed with it. They’ve experienced firsthand the pain and suffering caused by the resurgence of hate filled racial incidents throughout the country, particularly against the African, API, Latino, and Muslim communities. And they know well the constant burden that women have long fought against in this country, to achieve their unquestionable right of equal opportunity and equal pay.
Founded in 2003, The Bartko Foundation’s mission is to invest in the self-sufficiency of single minority mothers. Our purpose, therefore, is to assist those women most in need in achieving goals they have set for themselves, helping them to continue positive progress in their life’s journey. Our support focuses on goals related to education, transportation, housing and employment. We believe these areas have the most profound impact in the lives of our recipients and, therefore, our investments.
The pandemic has also impacted The Bartko Foundation’s spring charity fundraiser, Irene’s Dream Women’s Luncheon, for a second straight year. While we are again not able to host this luncheon in person, we are excited for the opportunity to host another Virtual Fundraiser in 2021. And we have exciting news to announce as we launch this fundraiser.
This year, a very generous donor has agreed to match the first $75,000 of donations, dollar for dollar! So we are setting the goal very high for this year’s fundraiser- $75,000, which will lead to total raised funds of $150,000!
This is the biggest fundraising goal we’ve ever set, and we need all the help we can get to achieve it. And since every donation up to $75,000 is matched, your contribution and impact on the women we can help will be doubled.
Please consider giving as much as you can, so that we can help these women and their children achieve their life goals.
