Hey guys! I'm Hannah Sperry, and I'm going to be running my first ever marathon – the 2020 Chicago Marathon. Ahh!
Throughout my life I've been active and involved in sports and I continue that lifestyle today by teaching group fitness classes, biking around the city, and pushing myself through personal workouts.
We live on the Chicago marathon route and I love watching so many motivated people push through their barriers to achieve such a tremendous feat year after year. This year, what I coined as "Marathon Fever," struck me particularily hard. But running never came easily for me, even as a fitness guru, so I vowed I would never run a full marathon – just ask my parents! So I took a risk and put my name in the lottery, was somehow selected, and here we are today.
I knew if I was going to run, I wanted to run for a purpose greater than myself. I researched for days and landed upon the perfect local organzation: The Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association.
The Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association empowers youth, adults, and injured military personnel with physical and visual disabilities to be healthy and active through sports and recreation participation. GLASA's motto is: "Let no one sit on the sidelines," which really resonated with me. I dream of a day that everyone could have the same physical opportunities that I do, and I NEVER take that for granted.
I'd consider it an honor to have your support to help raise awareness for this incredible organization and run for Team GLASA.
