Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association's mission is to promote and support the development and well-being of youth, adults and injured military veterans who have a physical or visual disability through recreational and competitive sports. GLASA's motto is: "Let NO ONE Sit on the SIDELINES."
A few of the many impressive facts about GLASA are (i) GLASA served 1,020 “athletes” (everyone is called an athlete) in 2018-2019, (ii) 87 cents of every dollar donated to GLASA goes directly to its programs and the people the agency serves, (iii) GLASA offers over 20 different adaptive sports, including: archery, boccia, cycling, goalball, golf, judo, kayaking, power soccer, softball, scuba diving, sled hockey, swimming, tennis, track and field, water skiing, powerlifting, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair football, yoga and others, and (iv) since 2014, 100% of GLASA’s high school seniors went on to college. Additional information can be found at www.glasa.org.
Our family has enjoyed teaming with athletes at a number of GLASA's programs over the years, such as Camp Trek, sled hockey and the Great Lakes Games. In 2020, I am excited to join Team GLASA, a group of dedicated and generous runners who train and run 26.2 miles while also raising money to support GLASA. It's been over 10 years since I last ran a marathon, but I am very excited to run with Team GLASA in the Chicago Marathon next October and raise funds for this amazing organization. Please consider donating and supporting the mission of GLASA!
