Dear Friends, I am so excited and honored to be chosen to run the 2020 Boston Marathon for the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation. My son Chris, diagnosed with autism at 19 months ago, continues to thrive in his second year of college. He is embracing every second of his Wildlife and Fisheries curriculum, he is a leader on the Timbersports Team and he still manages to squeeze in some serious birding time. We have been fortunate enough to receive and Chris was lucky enough to be receptive to all the help and guidance of so many doctors, therapists, specialists, family, friends and organizations like the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation. We are grateful beyond words and hope to give back in some small way. Please consider supporting me as part of Dougie’s 2020 Boston Marathon Team to help raise funds and awareness for kids and their families with autism. Thank you so much!
Former NFL Quarterback, Doug Flutie, and his wife Laurie started the Doug Flutie, Jr. Flutie Foundation for Autism in 1998 after their son, Dougie, was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. Their personal experience of raising a son on the autism spectrum inspired them to help others on an equally long and challenging journey. Over its 20-year history, the Flutie Foundation has distributed over $14 million to schools and organizations who provide clinical therapies, respite services, recreational programs, social skills training, job supports and more for people affected by autism.
The Flutie Foundation also provides education technology tools, adaptive camp scholarships, safety equipment, and direct family support through its special programs. The Flutie Foundation’s newest initiative, Flutie Spectrum Enterprises, will help create businesses to employ adults with autism.
