Thanks for visiting my page! I am so honored and excited (and of course a bit nervous!) to be running my first Boston Marathon as a member of Dougie's Team in honor of my boys, Carter and Dylan!
Our sweet, affectionate and hilarious twin boys, Carter and Dylan, were diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at three years old. Getting this diagnosis for two of your children at the same time can feel a bit overwhelming at times. Much like many individuals impacted by ASD, there is a great deal of uncertainty around their prognosis and their future. Despite these uncertainties, there are many things I know for sure since receiving their diagnoses. I feel so incredibly lucky to be their mother, every single day I am proud of how hard they work and the progress they have made, I am extremely thankful for the incredible support system we have (family, friends that are family, teachers, therapists-it takes a village!) and I am SO ready for this journey ahead of us! These boys have amazed us since before they were even born ('Identical twins? Are you sure?') and I have NO doubt they will continue to do so. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for them!
One year ago Carter and Dylan each had a handful of words (mostly related to Thomas the Train :) ) that they used to communicate with us. Over the past year they have received intensive home behavioral therapy, speech, PT, OT and gone to school. While they still love to talk about Thomas :), today they are speaking in 3-4 word SENTENCES, they've made huge improvements in making their needs known to us, they're engaging more with their peers and SO much more! We've seen over this past year how important it is for them and us to have access to services and supports to help them thrive!
I am so excited to be running this race on April 20, 2020 and raising money for the Doug Flutie Jr Foundation for Autism, an organization dedicated to helping individuals and families affected by autism to live life to the fullest. This organization focuses on helping individuals with ASD lead productive lives where they are included, respected, and actively engaged in their communities. SIGN ME UP! :)
I have a fundraising goal of $10,000. Please help me reach this goal!
THANK YOU so much for visiting my page, reading our story and supporting me!
