2020 Vision Campaign
Our church has a need…actually we have three needs that have all hit us at the same time.
1. We need a new air conditioning system. Our current air conditioner was installed in the early 1980s and at that time it had been donated to the church from another building in the area so it is very old and it is now at the point where it just simply needs to be replaced.
2. We need a new roof on the flat roof portion of the building.
3. We would like to do some updates in our sanctuary. The pews are old and they have gotten worn out and used up over time. Our building is over 55 years old and the pews were installed in the building when it was built so we would like to replace them with chairs and do some work with the flooring.
These needs will cost us approximately $190,000. Now fortunately, we have part of that already. But we would like to raise $50,000 from Go Fund Me to help with these projects and so we are initiating our 2020 Vision Campaign.
We have thought about this, discussed this and we have prayed about it at length. And we believe God is leading us to present the needs in this way to raise the funds necessary for these projects.
This church congregation has existed in the Chicago area since the late 1800s. We have been at our current Oak Lawn location for 55 years. The church has brought the love, truth and grace of God, and the life-changing message of salvation in Christ Jesus, to thousands of people over the years. We are excited that God still uses our church in wonderful ways today and we believe He wants us to continue to minister through this local congregation well into the future. These repairs and improvements will be part of enabling the continuing ministry of this terrific congregation for many years to come.
Again, we would like to raise $50,000 through this Go Fund Me effort and we are hoping to raise it by December of this year, 2020. We know that might seem like a large number, but we believe this is possible and we believe that with God’s help we will be able to do this.
I (Dan Marler, pastor) have never done a fund raising campaign before. In 26 years of being the pastor here we have never had to have a fund raising campaign. God has blessed and people have given and, thankfully, we never had the need. But we have the need now.
So to those who have read this far, if you are willing, here is what we are humbly asking you to do: First, pray. Would you please sincerely pray and ask God this question: Lord, should I participate in this fund raising campaign?
We do not assume that you should participate, we are asking you—if you are willing—to ask God.
If the answer you get from God is “yes.” Yes, you should do this. You should help. Then here is the second part, would you ask God this question: How much should I give?
So here, again, are the questions:
1. Should I give, Lord?
2. And if the answer is “yes.” How much should I give?
And then we simply ask you to do what God tells you to do. If God lays it on your heart to help our church and you respond, please know that we are overjoyed and we greatly appreciate your help.
Thank you for taking a few moments to read this request.
Love and blessings to you,
First Church of God
