Four years ago I was introduced to The Sports Museum, a non-profit organization based in Boston, MA. The Sports Museum leverages the power and platform of professional sports and athletes to motivate at-risk kids to participate in transformative educational programs. I was thoroughly interested in helping and quickly became a member of The Sports Museum’s Young Leaders Council (YLC). The YLC is a group of young professionals striving help drive The Sports Museum’s movements and raise awareness. Each year through the YLC I participated in The Rodman Ride for Kids, a 50 mile bike ride, to support fundraising efforts for The Sports Museum’s two educational programs Boston vs. Bullies and Stand Strong.
Boston vs. Bullies is a bullying prevention program that is provided to schools and organizations across MA free of charge. The program uses professional athletes to set an example for standing up against bullying. Through videos and activities, students are provided with practical guidance, strategies and options from the latest anti-bullying research. They learn different types of bullying and how they can help put a stop to it. Since the roll-out of this program (Fall 2013) it has reached more than 100,000 kids (grades 5-6), 1,100 teachers and 350 schools/organizations!
Stand Strong is a character building program that revolves around five key elements: determination, courage, teamwork, fairness, and responsibility. Students that participate experience a powerful, integrated series of 14 sessions over a three-month period that helps enable them to make the right choices in the face of drugs, violence, and other daily challenges.
This year I was offered the opportunity to represent The Sports Museum in an even larger effort – the Boston marathon. Through the Boston Marathon I am hope to continue raising awareness and supporting these incredible programs. The Sports Museum teaches life-long lessons to kids that would otherwise not have the opportunity to experience the curriculum. Please consider donating to this extraordinary organization. Every donation will help expand the outreach and growth of these programs. We hope to add significantly to the thousands of children that have already been positively impacted and continue to educate the Boston community.
Thank you in advance for supporting me as part of the The Sports Museum's 2020 Boston Marathon Team. All donations are greatly appreciated!
