Dear Friends and Supporters:
ZiRu Dance is excited to announce “Renewal”, a year-long creative journey consisting of two festivals, workshop classes, and international cultural exchange to help bridge communities and foster feelings of togetherness, even from afar. Over the course of the next year, “Renewal” will curate two Silicon Valley Dance Festival events. These events will focus on positive growth, healing, and equity.
While the performing arts are still adapting to the closure of venues, ZiRu Dance adapted quickly and has already been hosting vibrant online classes. Now we are taking it to the next level with two virtual festivals over the next six months. These unique circumstances have allowed us to book top-tier talent that we cannot wait for you to enjoy from home. Your support creates new opportunities for Bay Area dancers and delivers much needed artistic programming. We are counting on you to keep dance alive.
The power of dance lies in both its beauty and its ability to communicate emotions that are difficult to articulate. We are all under a lot of stress and need to prioritize wellness. “Renewal” provides you with an opportunity to experience fine arts and much needed repose - all from home and on your own time.
Be transported and inspired by choreographed visions of how we can collectively heal and grow from recent events.
Your donation today grants you access to a multitude of performances featuring 25 choreographers (Robert Moses’ KIN, AXIS Dance, and LDTX to name a few) and over 60 dance artists and crew members.
SCHEDULE:
The first festival event is scheduled to take place in December 2020. For the December 2020 virtual festival, we bring to you a diverse line up of 5 BIPOC main stage choreographers and 5 young choreographers from around the world, featuring work centered around the theme of "Renewal". We are excited to present the work of ZiRu Dance (SF/Peninsula), LDTX (Beijing/China), Robert Moses’ KIN (San Francisco), AXIS Dance (Oakland) and Sidra Bell Dance (New York) as a full length evening of dance for the foremost virtual event.
The second festival event is scheduled to take place in March 2021. The lineup for the March 2021 virtual festival is still in the works. As with the December festival, we will present the work of 10-15 choreographers of varying cultures, ethnicities, and backgrounds.
In addition to a top-tier line up, both festival events will include virtual master classes for you to attend from your home.
Bringing together black, indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) artists from across the nation and around the world highlights the beauty of our multicultural society. In times like these, dance practice can serve to shed light on and offer ways to heal from racism, xenophobia, and isolation.
“Renewal” is made possible through support from the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. As 2021 moves forward and the pandemic subsides, the journey of “Renewal” plans to include a cross-cultural exchange component with dance festivals in China. ZiRu Dance has cultivated harmonious ties and fair artistic trade exchanges with choreographers and dancers in China over the past 15 years, and these relationships will to continue to grow and flourish.
Experiencing dance together, growing together, and healing together are more important than ever. The most important component to making this happen is YOU. You, our community, can bring this vision forward. With your support, this vision can come to vibrant life. Thank you for contributing and we will see you at the festival!
