Hi friends and family!
I am thrilled to announce that on Monday April, 20th I will be representing the 2020 Massachusetts General Hospital Emergency Response Team in the Boston Marathon for the second time! I could not be more thrilled to have been given this opportunity again. The Mass General Emergency Response Marathon Team will raise funds to help provide critical support for emergency care, disaster relief and disaster preparedness teaching and training at Mass General that will benefit victims worldwide. These funds are crucial to ensure that Mass General is ready for the next disaster, man-made or natural, and to support the training and resources needed to develop a carefully, integrated response that spans multiple departments throughout the hospital. Time spent training is not covered by insurance and often takes place outside work hours, therefore money raised by the Mass General Emergency Response team allows Mass General to ready at a moment’s notice. Money raised by the Mass General Emergency Response Marathon Team allows Mass General to be ready . . . ready when second’s count.
2018 was one of the costliest years in history when thinking through natural disaster losses which resulted in loss of life and significant economic impacts. While hurricanes, floods, droughts and fires are a force of nature, they are exacerbated by the effects of Climate Change. Climate Change impacts are now, and will be in the future, existential for entire nations and will pose tremendous economic, health, safety and other risks to populations worldwide. We need to not only do our part to prevent further disaster, but also to prepare for the enhanced magnitude of disasters that are to come and Mass General’s Emergency Response team is working to do just that!
My legs and I have had a wild ride, and last year I finally got to a point in my recovery where my legs were ready to take on my ultimate goal, running the Boston Marathon. Those twenty weeks leading up to the 2019 Boston Marathon were incredible, I pushed myself physically and mentally, and am amazed to say that I am ready to do it again, but now with a few lessons learned.I could not be more excited to fundraise for an amazing cause that I have been fortunate enough to learn so much about, and that I full heartedly believe in – it is one that we need now more than ever right now. I can't believe that I am getting the opportunity to cross this off of my bucket list for a second time, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to represent MGH in this endeavor. I hope you can support me (through a donation or friendly face along the course!) as I work to raise $10,000 for this amazing cause!
