Round 2 here we GOOOO! I have been lucky enough to have been invited to join MGH's Emergency Response team again for this upcoming 2020 Boston Marathon. Last year was such a great experience for me, even though on race day, I didn't perform as well as I wanted. But here I am, with that runner's high, wanting to run again despite that difficult race day in 2019.
MGH did such an awesome job inspiring us as runners: holding events for team bonding, heading up the team with a great coach, and all and all, making my first marathon experience a great one.
Last year, I ran for my Uncle T who was taken from us so suddenly that even today, I still can't believe he's been gone for over 2 years. I think of him now more often on my longer runs, when I am tired, remembering how he brought that rain last year at heartbreak hill, cooling me down and helping me to reach the finish. That first marathon was solely for him.
This year, however, I am running more for me. Running to know that I can do better, and know that I can finish this race stronger than last year. I am running to help raise money for a great cause, and for a great team, which was founded in 2014 after the horrible events of the 2013 Boston Marathon. This ER Team has raised more than $2.3 million in six years, providing critical funding to the hospital’s emergency preparedness and disaster medicine efforts that benefits victims worldwide.
A lot of you contributed to this cause last year, and in 2020, I ask for you to please do it again. Because this is a cause worth raising money for. These disasters occur so much more frequently in our world today and we need everyone's help to make sure as many lives are saved as possible. So thank you again, to all my supporters and I hope to see you on the course, hopefully with a smile on my face as I blaze by!
