Anyone can get lung cancer, even an active musical mom with three school-age children. Jill Hamer-Wilson and her community were devastated by her diagnosis. We had no idea that someone like Jill could get lung cancer, and we are very grateful for the difference that lung cancer research makes.
A clinical trial extended Jill’s life, and new treatment options have always become available just when she needed them. Now she takes a pill each day, walks 10,000 steps a day and celebrates life every day! We are very thankful she gets to be a mom who actively engages with her kids during critical years of their lives. They were just 6, 10 & 12 when she was diagnosed, and now they are 12, 16 & 18. Her oldest started University this Fall! These six years of life really matter, and we hope for many more.
Jill does a lot for the lung cancer community, in Ottawa, across Canada, the U.S. and internationally. She mentors advocates, meets with politicians, speaks publicly and organizes events for people affected by lung cancer. She helps found support groups, shares hope and information regularly at the cancer centre, and supports many people around the world. Jill also serves as a patient research advocate for the Canadian Cancer Trials Group (Lung Site) and the International Lung Cancer Foundation. She gives so much of her time and effort because she knows that lung cancer research means more hope and more life for more people.
Research matters! Jill says this every chance she gets, whether to a crowd, on social media, in the news, or in the kitchen. Jill and her community know the difference that lung cancer research makes, extending lives and improving quality of life.
December marks six years since Jill’s diagnosis! Team Jill is celebrating her six years of survivorship by participating in the Team Draft Super Bowl Challenge! In addition to funding lung cancer research, your donation this month could also help Jill earn the opportunity of a lifetime, including a huge platform for proclaiming the importance of lung cancer research! Join in celebrating suvivorship by giving a donation for research to help extend the lives of lung cancer survivors.
