Dear Churchill Alumni, Family, and Friends,
My name is Jake Staples and, this year, I am the president of the House of Sir Winston Churchill. This year has been one of Churchill’s most successful to date. The House earned a third-place cumulative GPA of 3.29. Our GPA has not been this high in a very long time (if ever). We also won third place in this year’s fall retreat drama comp with a skit about what it really means to endure. We have also continued many long standing traditions this year from initiation and bigs and littles, to the bow tie ceremony and events with our sister house, the house of Clara Barton.
One of my favorite house traditions is our annual house retreat. I believe that this is the most meaningful bonding time that is available to our house. We are planning to spend roughly $2000 dollars to make this retreat happen. Each semester, the house is given $1300 to finance our activities for the whole semester. We also get a $1000 grant to help cover retreat costs. As you can see, this does not leave very much left over to make sure that the rest of the semester is fun for the house. Besides house retreat, we have ten events planned that are open to the entire house this semester.
House retreat can be devastating for a house’s budget and greatly restrict the house’s ability to put on these events and continue to carry the banner of our great house’s traditions. We need money to make this happen. Please consider giving to support your house.
