The Mission of the BCO is to serve the Bowmanville Community and engage in and carry out activities which nurture interaction and community spirit.
We need your help in 2020 for funding to replace the loss of our annual events: The Bowmanville Street Sale, The Bowmanville Garden Walk, and the Summer Social. These 3 events help the BCO fulfill its mission and keep our Neighborspace gardens open. Please consider making a contribution to keep the BCO healthy and our 4 gardens maintained.
Bowmanville is home to wonderful open spaces and community gardens. This all began with a group of dedicated neighbors with vision, grit and determination.
Each of these spaces were created over the years on the initiative of active community members as part of an effort to make Bowmanville one of the greenest, most livable communities in Chicago. Residents are proud of their efforts and partnerships with other organizations to bring life to these spaces. Our visible and enduring commitment to creating a sustainable and green urban environment has been recognized across the city. Over the years, the BCO and Bowmanville neighbors have received gardening awards, grants, media spotlights and support for expansion opportunities. Neighbor stewardship of the community gardens in Bowmanville continues, as all of our gardens are maintained through volunteer effort. In 2017, the BCO pursued an opportunity to expand and improve one of our gardens, the Gateway Garden. One of the current highlights of our community gardens is the vibrant vegetable gardening that bring neighbors together in cultivating fresh food options for their families. Veggie plots in the Bowmanville and Gateway Gardens become available annually.
