This Christmas season, please partner with Passion for Community (P4C) so that we may bring the love of Christ and practical helps to our neighbors in the Fairfax County community! Together we can reduce and prevent homelessness. This 2019 P4C Christmas Campaign is designed to help Fairfax county families, students and victims of domestic violence.
Do you realize that every single night Fairfax County has about 1,000 homeless people on the street or in shelters? According to the Fairfax County Office to Prevent and End Homelessness, our community has the 2nd largest homeless population in the region. Only in Washington, D.C. are there more people without homes.
Homelessness affects everyone. 38% of homeless people are children under the age of 18 and 42% of the families are homeless due to domestic violence (2018 Fairfax-Falls Church community survey). We have the motivation and volunteers to help our homeless neighbors know the love of Jesus and have a better life, but we need your partnership too!
Nearly every week our partner Shelter House has families and victims of domestic violence transitioning to permanent housing. These families cannot move into their new homes until they have lined up furniture and basic household items. Fairfax County Public Schools’ social workers also refer students to us with similar needs. Every month the volunteers of P4C deliver brand new beds, donated furniture and household goods to families in need. This year, we have impacted our community by providing nearly 70 beds to 34 families. Over the summer, we averaged delivery of 16 beds a month and we hope to do more!
Every summer, we support the Western Fairfax Christian Ministries annual backpack drive for students going back to school. This Thanksgiving, we will team up with New Life Christian Church to provide turkeys and all the fixings for over 300 families. This Christmas, we will collaborate with Shelter House for the Christmas Adopt a Family Program, which provides presents for children experiencing homelessness due to domestic violence.
So many opportunities to serve, provide, and pray for our neighbor!
As we are committed to assisting people out of homelessness, we find it is just as important to invest in prevention through education and training. We help meet the most basic needs of hunger and motivation at a local Fairfax High School, an alternative high school that provides a non-traditional educational setting for students of ages 17 – 22.
Would you partner with us this Christmas? Your gift will make a huge difference! Our goal is to raise $50,000 by year-end, so that we can accomplish the following needs:
➢ Urgent need of $6,000 to deliver at least 35 new beds through January.
➢ Need of $12,000 to provide at least 70 new beds in the first half of 2020.
➢ Warehouse rent need of $10,000 to cover the first 5 months of 2020.
➢ Repair expense estimated at $1,000 for our delivery truck’s air conditioning system.
➢ Need of $5,000 to purchase various supplies such as fuel, cleaning supplies, moving equipment, and materials to repair donated items with minor damage.
Any amount goes a long way, by giving a family or a student a clean warm place to sleep:
➢ $170 can buy one bed (mattress and frame) for someone in need.
➢ $225 could by a bed with a complete set of blankets, linens, and pillows.
➢ $25 provides linens and pillows.
To help us share the love of Christ and provide practical needs to our neighbors in Fairfax County, please partner with us to achieve our $50,000 Christmas campaign goal! We hope you will pray for this ministry and give a generous year-end gift or commitment. Please also consider making a monthly commitment to help sustain expenses used in ongoing P4C projects to reduce and prevent homelessness.
