The Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI) is a fundraising campaign spearheaded by the Junior League of Lynchburg (JLL) as part of our mission to empower women in our community. This is our 4th annual event! Through it, we aim to bring awareness to and help alleviate the effects of trauma women face in the community. In particular, this includes sexual or domestic abuse and poverty. This year, we hope to raise $12,000 in support of the YWCA of Central Virginia and Junior League of Lynchburg.
How does it work? Participants raise funds while wearing ONE black dress, or other black attire, every day for the week of October 21-25 to prompt conversation and highlight the effect traumatic situations can have on a woman’s access to resources, confidence, and opportunities.
How can I participate?
Donate! This is a Signature Event for JLL. We hope each member will raise $75 or more! We will be tracking donations through CrowdRise. Donations can be made directly to CrowdRise (ie share in email, text, social media), to the JLL member or participant, or mailed to the JLL PO Box with participant’s name on it (PO Box 2751, Lynchburg, VA 24505).
Become a participant! Make sure to attend the Kickoff party (stay tuned for info) to receive a $2 LBDI button to wear each of the five days. To sign up as a participant, click the 'Join the Team & create your own fundraiser' button to the right on CrowdRise. Spread the word on social media leading up to and during the campaign by sharing your fundraising page and by using the hashtag #LBDIJLL2019. Keep an eye on the JLL Facebook page for posts you can share on your profile, as well as a profile picture frame.
Eat! We are partnering with one area restaurant each day from October 20-25 who have each graciously agreed to donate a portion of their proceeds in support of LBDI. More information on FB events to come! Help us support these restaurants who are generously supporting our efforts!
