When I first started triathlons in 2013 I never wanted to do anything longer than an Olympic Distance race (OLY). In 2014, Darren, who has been more of an inspiration to me than he could ever know, had a crazy idea to do an Ironman 70.3 in Texas, in June. I finished that race and ended up in the med tent for dehydration. If I knew then what I know now!! In 2017 I completed my first ever Ironman race (140.6). It wasn’t fast and it wasn’t pretty, but I finished and heard those words, “David, you are an Ironman!”
A year later I am ready to try another full Ironman. Darren and I have raced together in numerous 2M, 5K, 10K, 13.1, Sprint Tri, OLY Tri, and 70.3 races. One event we have not done together is a 140.6, a full Ironman distance. He and I have decided to do Boulder 2019. It will be the foreseeable pinnacle of our journey together.
Why am I telling you all this? Well, I have decided to fundraise for the Ironman Foundation. This foundation gives back to the communities where Ironman races are held. Money raised goes to local non-profit organizations that support the community. For example, funds raised in Santa Rosa focused on military families and wildfire recovery efforts. This was the race I did last year; the area was devastated by wildfires a few months after the race. In Texas, Ironman Foundation partnered with Rebuilding Together Houston to rebuild two homes affected by Hurricane Harvey. Most recently Ironman Foundation partnered with Paradox Sports to host an adaptive rock climbing clinic for visually impaired athletes.
I was talking with Leslie about, “Why Ironman Foundation?” She is willing to help with fundraising efforts if it’s for a good cause. After telling her about the numerous volunteers needed for a single race, the stress a race puts on the community, and how Ironman Foundation gives back to those communities, she is extremely supportive.
Again, why am I telling you this? Because I need your help. My goal is to raise $3500 for this foundation. Whether it’s $100 or $10, each donation helps make a difference. All donations are tax deductible.
I am passionate about triathlons and endurance racing. With your donation, we can help provide opportunities and experiences to the local community that gives so much for so little in return.
Thank you for reading. If you would like more information, please don’t hesitate to message me. Together we can make a difference.
