Welcome Spring with our tenth annual 'Healing with Horses' walk-a-thon to benefit Centaur Stride Therapeutic Riding Center, sponsored by the Lakewood Kiwanis Club.

We hope you’ll consider joining us, Sunday March 31th at the Chautauqua Mall.  We need more people/teams to help us reach our goal.

There are many ways to help through our online fundraiser:

– Form a team. (You can raise funds without being on site for the event.) Ask your friends and/ or employer to join you!   Many employers have charitable giving programs and will match funds raised by employees. Please ask your employer.  We will set up a page on our site for you to fundraise through social media.

- Donate to a rider's 'Healing with Horses' walk-a-thon page to help that rider raise the money for his/her team/horse.  The actual value/cost per lesson varies from $37-168 depending on the rider's needs and abilities (the high end requiring a therapist and 2 other helpers, the low end an independent rider). However, riders are charged only $30/lesson, regardless of actual cost. It costs about $3500 per year to care for, feed and keep one horse in good condition  as a therapy horse (lots of TLC and training)!.

-Start your own individual fundraising page. You just have to let us know your interest and we will set up the page for you on Crowdrise.  You then send it out on Social Media or email and ask your friends to sponsor you and share your page.

Located in Sherman/Westfield, N.Y., Centaur Stride has been providing programs to benefit people with disabilities, enriching the lives of more than 150 children and adults with cognitive, emotional  or physical challenges, as well as their families.

Centaur Stride Therapeutic Horseback Riding has been providing an inclusive environment of recreational enrichment for persons with and without disabilities from its facilities since 1993. There are no paid, nor has ever been, any paid administrative staff.  That brings operational costs down a lot but also makes it more difficult to get grants.  The benefits of therapeutic horseback riding expand across physical, cognitive, emotional and social domains. The joy experienced by family members just to see their child engaging in something that they would never be able to do is monumental. The programs are labor intensive and require many people to assist. Therefore, each rider and family are so grateful to the community for the generous donations and volunteer support.  Thank you for helping provide therapeutic recreation, hope and joy to our riders, their families and all those who volunteer and witness the amazing world of healing with horses! We are excited to have completed the bridge that will give us access to 30 more acres of trails! Program development is on the horizon- we just need funding- anything is possible and every donation helps us reach our goals!
