Molly Peddicord- Chicago Marathon 2019
As many of you may know, I have always loved sports. I spent over half my life riding horses, but now that it has been 2 years since I've ridden a horse I have found myself wondering away from the athletic world. Without horses I have been trying to find myself and who I am. With a sense of feeling lost in life came a lack of confidence in not just who I am, but what I am passionate about. This past year, my younger sister and my friend Alicia Gasser have served as inspiration to get up and go. I have ALWAYS wanted to run a marathon, and now seemed like the time. No excuses. I came across this organization, Girls on the Run, that is helping young girls/ women find their passion at a young age to be healthy and confident. I knew that this is exactly the organization I wanted to run for.
Girls on the Run-Chicago is a non-profit after-school program with a mission to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident. The innovative program combines training for a non-competitive 5k (3.1 miles) running event with life skills lessons that build positive physical and social-emotional health in participants. Since 1999, Girls on the Run-Chicago has served more than 70,000 girls across Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. This year, more than 2,000 coaches will mentor 11,000 girls, empowering them with the confidence and character they need to become strong, healthy women.
85% of the girls in our program receive finanical assistance to participate. All funds raised by the Girls on the Run-Chicago SoleMates Team go to underwrite the organization's generous financial assistance so that all girls can take part in this life-changing programing!
