Family, Friends, Colleagues, Community,
Thank you for visiting the fundraising page of David Hunt & Luke Goodemote, both Reading-natives representing the Boston Bruins Foundation in the 2019 Pan-Mass Challenge, which will take place the first weekend in August. This will be David's 3rd consecutive PMC ride, & Luke's 2nd! Last year, they completed the 192 miles (from Sturbridge MA to Provincetown MA) together, which proved to be an incredible experience for such a worthy cause after 25 years of friendship.
Since 1980, this athletic fundraiser has changed countless lives; it gives the medical community resources to deliver better patient outcomes, & allows 5,000+ participants the opportunity to "give back" in memory of those lost or still suffering from all forms of cancer. ALL funds raised go directly to Dana Farber & The Jimmy Fund, both Boston-based organizations...
Whether you're a "repeat" or "1st-time" donor, your generosity means the world to David & Luke (as well as the PMC community), but more importantly, will help to save lives!
Please consider attending the 2nd annual PMC Spinathon Event at TREAD ON EAST (located at 29 East St in Winchester MA). Date TBD. For details & registration, contact David Hunt or Luke Goodemote directly. Much like last year, this event will provide an opportunity for 100+ attendee's to "put in work" for the cause at the local level, & would not be possible without the generosity of owners Lori Haverty & Tiffany Freitas, as well as their committed staff !
Luke's Story: After completing his first PMC in 2018, there was no questioning whether or not he'd return for more. The entire experience had a profound effect on Luke; to be a part of such a worthwhile cause brought a tremendous amount of purpose to his life, knowing that he (alongside thousands of fellow riders) made a difference in the fight against cancer. He knew that he was a part of something bigger, & something that could show tangible results in terms of funds raised & hope restored. Like virtually everyone, Luke has been affected by cancer personally; both his dad & mother-in-law are "living proof" survivors that persevered through adversity. His beloved mother Linda Goodemote, as well as Tom Brennan (who was like a second-father to Luke) unfortunately lost their courageous battles in recent years. God doesn't make individuals any better than these two; Linda & Tom were the salt of the earth & would do anything for their friends & family. They are both dearly missed by Luke as well as everyone who knew them. Through the Pan-Mass Challenge, Luke is able to make sure that their memory lives on, & do his part to help eradicate cancer from existence so that others dont have to suffer.
David's Story: On 12/5/00, David suffered a traumatic brain injury playing Division 3 college hockey at Plymouth State University. It was a life-changing event & the scariest thing imaginable for an 18 year old college freshman. As a result, he spent several weeks hospitalized at Mass General, followed by 2 sub-sequent years of outpatient therapy. The bleed on his brain left him immobile on the entire right side of his body, from his face down to his toes. He had sensation, so he could feel everything, but lost many of the signals that control movement & muscle tone. Still to this day there are pending effects...Although his path has not been an easy one, David chooses to persevere with a positive attitude & a "can do" approach to everything, & he's come to realize that there are many others just like him in that sense. According to him, if it wasn't for the support of his family, friends, co-workers, & community - there is no telling where he would be nowadays, which is exactly why the Pan-Mass Challenge is the perfect forum for him to "give back". David rides because he can, but more importantly to support some of the most courageous & battle-tested people to have ever walked this earth. Thinking about his dad, Jim Hunt, who is a cancer survivor (& one of the strongest-willed people he knows) gives him the fuel he needs to do this. He also rides in memory of Linda Goodemote, Mike Boyd & many others that were near & dear to him.
