Welcome to the Tedy's Team fundraising website.
On April 13th I suffered a Transient Ischemic Attack or TIA. These attacks are often described as a mini-stroke. Safe to say, I had no idea what was happening to me. Sitting across the table from my wife and not being able to speak and get coherent words out was the scariest experience of my life. She was smart enough to know that something was not right and got me to Salem Hospital, where I underwent a battery of tests. The timing of this was incredible, as my wife had just started a job for Partners Healthcare (Salem Hospital, NSMC, Mass Gen, etc.) and was actually home and not traveling for work, as she would have been had she continued her previous job. We were very fortunate.
This brings me to what I feel is a connection to this organization. As my wife and I navigated our way through the diagnosis, a common, relatable factor was Tedy Bruschi. His very public health challenges that centered around stokes, TIA's, etc. made it a very positive story to gravitate to. I completed my procedure to repair my PFO, which doctors believe caused my TIA, on May 31st at Mass Gen. On Friday, June 1st, I start my recovery and path towards running in the 2019 Boston Marathon. I am proud to run for Tedy's Team! A little bit more about Tedy's Team:
The mission of Tedy's Team is to raise awareness for stroke and heart disease while supporting survivors on their journey, giving them a means for a comeback!
Tedy's Team was originally founded in 2005, when Tedy Bruschi, former linebacker for the New England Patriots suffered a stroke shortly after winning his 3rd Super Bowl and just days after returning from his first Pro Bowl.
Fast forward 13 years and over $6 million later, through Tedy's Team's support of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, stroke has been reduced from the #3 killer of all Americans to the #5 killer. Tedy's Team has helped fund live saving research in and around Massachusetts.
With the help of over 1,200 alumni, Tedy's team has raised awareness of the warning signs of stroke by knowing the warning signs!
Speech Difficulties - and if you notice any of those warning signs, it's...
TIME TO CALL 9-1-1.
New this year is our Comeback Assistance Program: a financial assistance program created to help survivors and caregivers of heart disease and stroke.
