In November 2017, my father suffered a significant stroke in his left temporal lobe which has left him almost completely paralyzed on the right side of his body. His ability to speak & communicate, eat, motor plan and other day to day functions have been altered as a result of the damage from what the Neurologists felt were a series of mini strokes. Preexisting brain damage from a stroke he suffered 16 years ago adds to the struggles of recovery.
Although we've been down this road before, this time has been a lot different than his first. Watching my father, who in my eyes is the epitome of strength, endure so much frustration physically as well as emotionally, and pain, through his recovery process, has lit a fire in me and my desire to do more to help him and so many others in stroke recovery and research. I reached out to Tedy's Team to see what I needed to do to become a part of their incredible organization. I'm beyond excited to be joining them AGAIN! in the 2019-2020 season! Tthere is little I can think of that would motivate me more than to support others like my Dad and Grandmother (his mother) who have had their lives so drastically effected by stroke.
My father fought so hard throughout his stroke recovery, but sadly on December 3, 2018 he passed away. I am so incredibly grateful for the therapists, nurses, doctors, family and friends who helped keep his spirits lifted, and were his biggest cheerleaders when he's having a rough day. He was an incredibly strong man, and I'm so proud to be his daughter.
Someone in the United States has a stroke every 40 seconds, and is the 4th most frequent cause of death.Stroke is a leading cause of long-term disability and the leading preventable cause of disability. If you're able- please help in supporting this incredible organization. Even the smallest amount can help make a difference. Your donation will support such life-saving efforts as research, education, advocating for better health, improving patient care and reaching populations at risk.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for supporting Tedy’s Team and the fight against stroke.
Welcome to the Tedy's Team fundraising website.
The mission of Tedy's Team is to raise awareness for stroke and heart disease while supporting survivors on their journey, giving them a means for a comeback!
Tedy's Team was originally founded in 2005, when Tedy Bruschi, former linebacker for the New England Patriots suffered a stroke shortly after winning his 3rd Super Bowl and just days after returning from his first Pro Bowl.
Tedy's Team participates in the Boston Marathon, Falmouth Road Race, and this year's travel event is Duke City Race Weekend in New Mexico!
We are honored to be part of the Offical Charity Program of the Boston Marathon and the Numbers for NonProfits Program at the New Balance Falmouth Road Race for 15 years. The Boston Athletic Association and the NBFRR hav allowed us to utilize their platforms to elevate the awarenss of the warning signs of stroke, which are best remembered by using the acronym BE FAST, which stands for:
Speech Difficulties - and if you notice any of those warning signs, it's...
