I am very excited to announce that I will be joining “Tedy’s Team” for the first time and will be running with them in the Falmouth Road Race on Sunday, August 18, 2019.
I first found out about Tedy’s Team last summer when I was running my first 10k “Finish at the 50” at Gillette Stadium. I was approaching the last 2 miles of the run when a guy passing me turned back and gave me the thumbs up giving me the encouragement I needed to finish the race. I noticed the back of his shirt said Tedy’s Team. It had taken a few minutes to register, but I soon realized that the man giving me the thumbs up was Tedy Bruschi!
I went home that afternoon and began learning all about Tedy’s Team. For those of you who don’t know, Tedy created this team after suffering a stroke himself to help raise the awareness of the signs and symptoms of stroke and help to reduce deaths due to stroke. Since this team was created in 2005, stroke has gone from the nation’s No. 3 killer to No. 5!
Not only did I discover what an awesome organization it is, but it is also a cause that it very close to my heart. Unfortunately, stroke has had an effect on our family as well. I will be running this race in honor of my mother-in-law, Ruth Curran, who passed away in 2005 due to complications from a stroke and my mother who is a stroke survivor. I feel very fortunate that I am able to help out such a great cause while doing something that I love doing.
