It is hard to imagine that in has been five years since my Dad passed away. In many ways the year has felt much, much longer. I think about him many times daily and still think to myself that I should just pick up the phone and give him a call. The fact is, I cannot do that and it still breaks my heart. He was the leader of our family, but I know he would be proud of how my Mom, Sister, Wife and I have lived our lives since he passed.
Just a few days after he passed, I wrote a note to myself and put it inside my night stand drawer. The words simply stated – “Do Something for Dad.” I was not sure what that meant at the time or what I wanted to do, my only thought was to do something that would honor him on a continual basis…to do something that he would be proud of. Little did I know that my selection to be a part of Tedy’s Team for the 2015 Boston Marathon would lead me to finding my passion.
The inspirational stories I heard from teammates and the friendships I developed from being a member of the team over the last five years have made a huge impact on my life. I now realize that I found exactly what I should be “Doing for My Dad.” Over the last five years I have raised over $70,000 for my passion in raising stroke awareness and I intend to continue utilizing my passion to raise funds through Tedy’s Team.
