By now I’m sure you’ve seen my many posts about Tedy’s Team and our mission to end stroke and heart disease. And here we are again - back at it!
As a kid I was a massive Tedy Bruschi fan. I had his posters all over my room and owned his jersey since the dynasty years. When I heard he had a stroke in 2005, I was shocked - and I wanted to learn more. That was when I first learned what a stroke was, and what caused it.
From there, I was hooked on learning more. I focused on anatomy and science based classes and decided in high school that I wanted to pursue a career in health care. I shadowed a local physical therapist, and while at her clinic I saw a patient who was working on recovering from her stroke. She was young - my age - and her story struck me. I decided then that I wanted to work in stroke rehab. After Tedy’s stroke, I had heard about Spaulding Rehab Hospital, and I drove by it every time I drove into Boston with my family. I decided I had to work there.
I was fortunate enough to get into Northeastern University’s PT program, and the first chance I got at an internship, I applied to Spaulding. When asked what unit I wanted to work on, my immediate answer was stroke. I was hired as a rehab aide, and for 6 months I was able to work daily with patients who were recovering from a stroke. This changed my life - and also inspired me to run my first half marathon: the B.A.A. Half. I wanted to run for those who could not.
Training for that half, I decided that some day I would like to run the Boston Marathon. In the years since then, I have begun working full time as a neuro PT and have run 5 half marathons. When it came time to face my goal of running the Boston Marathon, I knew I had to run for the team - and the Patriots Linebacker - who started it all. Everything came circle, and I had the extreme honor of training for and running the 2019 Boston Marathon with Tedy’s Team. It was far and away the absolute best experience of my life!
Now we’re back, and we’re in Falmouth! We hit the streets of Cape Cod in August to raise more money towards stroke awareness, prevention and recovery. I am so excited to pound the pavement again with this team and raise more money for an amazing cause!!
Welcome to the Tedy's Team fundraising website.
The mission of Tedy's Team is to raise awareness for stroke and heart disease while supporting survivors on their journey, giving them a means for a comeback!
Tedy's Team was originally founded in 2005, when Tedy Bruschi, former linebacker for the New England Patriots suffered a stroke shortly after winning his 3rd Super Bowl and just days after returning from his first Pro Bowl.
Tedy's Team participates in the Boston Marathon, Falmouth Road Race, and this year's travel event is Duke City Race Weekend in New Mexico!
We are honored to be part of the Offical Charity Program of the Boston Marathon and the Numbers for NonProfits Program at the New Balance Falmouth Road Race for 15 years. The Boston Athletic Association and the NBFRR hav allowed us to utilize their platforms to elevate the awarenss of the warning signs of stroke, which are best remembered by using the acronym BE FAST, which stands for:
Speech Difficulties - and if you notice any of those warning signs, it's...
TIME TO CALL 9-1-1.
