On February 18, 1978 on the shores of Oahu, Hawaii, a legend was born. After a grueling 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and a 26.2 mile run, 12 amateur athletes crossed the finish line of a race that would forever abolish the perceived limitations of human’s mental and physical capabilities.
Sixteen years later, on the same day, February 18th, 1994 I was born. Coincidence? Maybe. At the time, my connection to this historic race was solely that, a shared date. However, later in life I would find out that my link to a tradition started by 12 amateur athletes would transcend far beyond a string of numerals. I would soon realize that my whole ethos on life would be shaped by the same pillars upon which the Ironman was built; anything is possible!
As many of you know, it has been a goal of mine to compete in the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii for many years now. An Ironman consists of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 run. I have spent the past 3+ years participating in and completing various milestone races and it has been a long journey of half marathons, full marathons, crazy obstacle course races, sprint triathlons, olympic triathlons and half Ironmans. All of these races have been the building blocks for my final challenge. The Ironman Kona: The World Championship.
I will be racing in the youngest age group (18-24) on behalf of The Ironman Foundation. IMF is a rockstar organization that is devoted to improving lives and communities in the United States through education, health, athletics and community oriented programs. Since inception, the organization has given back over $50 million to those in need. It is truly amazing how many communities and individuals have been improved through donations from the Foundation.
I have committed to raising $35,000 and I have contributed the first $1,000. Please support The Ironman Foundation and support me in achieving this goal. 100% of your proceeds will go to those in need and 100% of your donations will be tax deductible. To the extent we don’t meet our fundraising target, I commit to funding the shortfall so that we can achieve our goal together.
