This November I will be fulfilling a lifelong dream of running the TCS NYC Marathon. I am deeply honored to be able to run NYC as a member Team Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, and am using this race to raise awarness and raising funds in support of IAVA's mission.
IAVA
IAVA is a non-partisan member advised advocacy organization that connects, unites, and empowers post-9/11 Veterans. IAVA advocates on behalf of Veterans and their families to ensure they are supported, protected, empowered, and never forgotten.
My Service
I am an active duty Army Judge Advocate. After graduating from West Point as a member of the Class of 2003, I served as an infantry officer for 8-years. During that time I deployed to Iraq with the 1st Battalion 502nd Infantry Regiment (First Strike). That year-long deployment was incredibly challenging, at times terrifying, and truly life altering. The bonds that combat forged between me and my fellow First Strike brothers is as strong, if not stronger, today than it was 13-years ago. I attended the Indiana University Maurer School of Law through an Army program that sends line officers to law school to become Army attorneys. As a Judge Advocate, I have had the honor to serve with truly amazing attorneys and paralegals throughout the Country and in Afghanistan. The men and women who I have served with for the past 15-years are heroes. The sacrifices made--both by Vetrans and their Family members--cannot be forgotten and must be honored.
My Family
My wife, Jenny, is a Judge Advocate in the U.S. Army Reserves and has served in the Army for nearly 18 years. In her civilian capacity, Jenny runs a law firm representing Veterans before the Veterans Administration and the Court of Appeals for Vetran Affairs. We have three sons – Garrett (16), Teddy (4), and Johnny (9-months!) – who are our pride and joy, and keep us constantly running! We are currently stationed in Charlottesville, Virginia.
