I am so excited to announce that I will be running the TCS New York City Marathon in support of the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America! This gives me a chance to combine two extremely important parts of my life- running and mental health.
As a resident in psychiatry, I have provided mental heath care to veterans for the past year. It has been a privilege to work with such an amazing group of men and women, and I have learned a great deal about selflessness, courage, and resilience. I have also learned that many challenges that our veterans face last long after a deployment ends.
IAVA is an advocacy organization that offers a variety of assistance to post 9/11 veterans. They offer case management to help navigate the confusing network of government and non government assistance available and also focus on suicide prevention and connecting veterans with mental health care services.
Please consider donating to IAVA and following my journey as I train (@mydashfromnashtonyc on instagram). Honestly, every little bit can make a difference and is a wonderful way to give back to the veterans who have chosen to give so much to protect our country!
