Last fall life abruptly changed for me, as it does for so many of God’s Love We Deliver clients. A cancer from 2003 that had been removed, treated and forgotten, quite suddenly reappeared. This led to a “big” surgery and treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering...with an incredibly successful outcome. Throughout it all, my husband, Glenn Schwitter (and new Fisher Team member!) and the rest of my family and friends watched over me, sat vigil with me and most importantly made certain I had enough rest and nourishing food. Through tough times, I had all the support I needed. That’s my story. One with a happy ending.
When I rode and raised money for GLWD in the past, I did so because the story of how it began, with a single person who strived to help her friends, too weak to cook for themselves, never fails to move me. Out of one individual’s kindness, a glorious expression, the best part of us, our New Yorker family, has grown and grown. On September 28th, GLWD delivered it’s 20 millionth meal.
What happens when someone becomes ill and doesn’t have a family or friends, or the support system is tapped out, emotionally or financially? These are stressful times. An illness can drive a family to the brink. That’s when GLWD steps in, providing meals that are tailor-made for each patient and also nourish the entire family.
Please donate generously, not because of my story but because of all of the people reached every day, whose stories go unknown to our Elliman family but, thanks to God’s Love We Deliver, are not unheard.
