Dearest Friends and Family,
We're back! For the third year in a row we're gathering in Long Beach, NY for the polar plunge on Feburrary 4th, 2018. Why, you might ask, do we continue subjecting ourselves to a leisurely swim in the frigid Atlantic Ocean waters in the middle of Winter?
Well, you have a good case for concern...But we believe that our cause is just. Our motivations are three-fold: We commemorate loved ones who have lost their battles to cancer, we fundraise for cancer research, and we support those who are currently fighting this disease.
In our first 2 years partaking in the polar plunge, we raised nearly $6,000 to benefit the Ken Pribil Jr. Foundation. Those funds, coupled with proceeds from other fundraising efforts, enabled the Foundation to write a $5,000 check to Montefiore Hospital's Cancer Research division in 2017, the latest in a string of 3 cancer research grants. To date, the Foundation has granted over $10,000 in cancer research funds to Montefiore and Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospitals AND has awarded over 15 annual college scholarships to graduating high school students.
Our goal is to fundraise for another $5,000 cancer research grant in 2018. To achieve that goal we are requesting your support. Donations are tax deductible and go directly to the Ken Pribil Jr. Foundation, a 501(c)(3) IRS accredited not-for-profit organization. This Foundation was formed in memory of Ken Jr., a Rockville Centre native who lost his battle to Sarcoma cancer at the young age of 19, just 6 months into his studies at the University at Albany.
