In setting out my vision for 2018 there are 3 lofty goals I want to achieve. First, I want to get more involved in charity. I have had a blessed life and giving back is a key driver of the legacy I want to leave. I have spent the majority of my 20s and 30s working like a madperson and now I would like to shift a little more focus to philanthropy. Partnering with the ironman foundation allows me to combine this passion for community with my passion for endurance racing. Second, I want to complete another Ironman and get my time down by an hour and come in somewhere between the 13 and 14 hour mark. I've been training 5 to 6 days a week since early December once we got the new restaurant on stable footing. These workouts are a key driver for my happiness and I am truly at my best and healthiest when I am in the pool, on my bike or in my running shoes. Third, I have always wanted to travel with my Mom so I am going to fly her out to come hangout on race weekend. It was a super proud moment call her last night and say Mom come hang out I've got your flight and accommodation. There is nothing better than giving back to the one who raised you!
A special thanks is owed to my life long friends from Virginia: Earl, Dave & Ben who adopted me into their triathlon training team just in time to help fulfill my lifelong goal of completing an Ironman. They helped coach me to a perfect day in Louisville in 2016 and I can't wait to see what Texas in store here in April on raceday.
From the Ironman Foundation -
All money raised through the TEAM IMF program will benefit The IRONMAN Foundation, and specifically - the Community Fund Program. This program benefits those in the communities where IRONMAN events are held, by providing charitable support to a variety of local non-profit organizations that recognize citizens in need and provide support to the local community. Within those communities, The IRONMAN Foundation will provide grant funding opportunities to non-profit organizations, while also working with community leaders to identify projects that will benefit the community and provide funding to support those initiatives. The IRONMAN Foundation has provided funding opportunities of over $34 million dollars to numerous non-profit beneficiaries worldwide.
