I have lived with CMD my whole life and never expected to have any form of treatment available. A few years ago I was given a full diagnosis which gave me the opportunity in May to participate in my first clinical research study! I was excited to learn about significant research being conducted around my specific Ullrich subtype. There is a “nuisance” that snuck into the Collagen 6 protein that messes everything up! If researchers can develop a medicine that can skip over this “nuisance” when communication signals in the protein/gene are taking place, then the mutation would be corrected. Most optimistically, this medicine could conceivably be on the market in my lifetime!
We are entering into the MN Half Marathon/5K to both raise funds and awareness about CMD. The race is super fun! You can walk, run, or rollerblade a 5K or Half Marathon.
