Help us Raise Funds for Education: Empowering Children with Knowledge and Self-Confidence
2018 is an important year for Alyx and I. Not only because we have significant milestone birthdays this year (18 and 50), but because we are both setting out on new paths - her to university and me as author and entrepreneur.
I've had a dream of us going to Africa for a long time. Now, this time has arrived, thanks to a series of amazing synchronicities. We journey to Nairobi and the Masai Mara at the end of July. I know it's going to be a transformative experience for both of us, and give us fresh perspective and energy to fulfill our purpose in the world. More than anything else, I aspire to expand our definition of generosity, kindness, humility, joy and gratitude.
I've always believed that my only real job in life has been to empower my daughter, and give her everything she needs to be fully herself. Whether we're marching and advocating for women's rights, human rights, youth or gun control, I've tried to show her through my actions that her voice matters. She must always speak her mind and have the courage to stand up for what she believes in. She must always stand up for those who cannot. And she must always be guided by a strong sense of who she is as a person, and the values she holds dear.
This is the beginning of our fundraising journey and we'd like to start by raising $1,850 towards Education. Almost 60 million primary school-aged children aren’t in school, according to the United Nations. Some of them, girls especially, have to stay at home to help take care of siblings and collect water; others have to go to work to help support their family; some live too far from the nearest school; others can’t afford to pay for school fees or buy a uniform. As we approach our milestone birthdays, Alyx and I want to thank you for your support and kindness. We look forward to sharing our experiences with you in the weeks to come! We MUST do ALL WE CAN in this world. This is our duty and responsibility as human beings.
Love, Alyx and Carolyn
