Join the 14th Street Y and your downtown community for the Jewish New Year by giving forward and lifting up those in need!
The #14YMobilize groups are asking us to come together to support asylum-seeking families in NYC by donating to the International Rescue Committee (IRC), which provides a number of vital resources to families navigating immigration court.
The International Rescue Committee provides opportunities for refugees, asylees, victims of human trafficking, survivors of torture, unaccompanied minors and separated families and other immigrants to thrive in America.
Each year, thousands of people, forced to flee violence and persecution, are welcomed by the IRC into the safety and freedom of America. These individuals have survived against incredible odds. The IRC works with government bodies, civil society actors, and local volunteers and donors to help them translate their past experiences into assets that are valuable to their new communities. In New York and other offices across the country, the IRC helps them rebuild their lives.
Through a holistic suite of services including case management, employment assistance, education programming, community integration and immigration services, the IRC helps refugees, asylees, unaccompanied minors and other immigrants to regain a sense of stability, safety, and self-respect and to become self-sufficient, contributing members of their new communities.
A contribution would enable the IRC to continue providing newly arrived families in New York City with crucial services that include access to food and clothing, community orientation, prevention of homelessness, job skills training, educational classes and financial literacy, and other programs to help them become productive and self-reliant.
