Last February cancer derailed my bucket list goal of completing 13 half marathons in 13 months when my sister in law passed away suddenly. I had completed 6 & tried very hard to complete my 7th but only made it walking 10+ miles due to my own oral surgery, stress & out of shapeness (it's a word)
Well, cancer is now motivating me to start again. The last 4 people I have known who have died have all succombed to various forms of cancer. My friend & amazing young woman Ashtyn died about 3 weeks ago from complications related to a rare leukemia & subsequent bone marrow transplants (yes, that's transplants with an "s". 3 to be precise!) Her inspirational attitude towards life, her passing & truly inspired funeral service reminded me that I need to get out of the rut I've been in & be less of a waste.
I am at my best when I am helping others & I think I was happiest when I was more involved with the LLS & heaven knows, I was more in shape when I was doing regular events with Team in Training. So, I am working to incorporate all these aspects in this goal. As I work to get back in phyiscal shape I am restarting my 13 Halfs in 13 Months & during that 13 months, I plan to raise $5,000 for the LLS. This web page will be open for donations the entire 13 months & I will share it often on social media. My plan is to complete local half marathon events as often as I can but that can get expensive so I may have to design my own 13.1 routes occasionally.
I ask your support in this important personal goal of mine. I do this for all those cancer patients out there who wish they could be more active but bodies won't allow them to.
