10th Annual Harvest Run for Sustainability

The Sustainability Academy, the smallest public elementary school in Burlington, located in the heart of the Old North End, is once again hosting a great event. Our 10th Annual Harvest Run for Sustainability is happening but will be virtual again this year.

We invite anyone in our greater community to pick one of our specially curated routes in the Intervale or around the Old North End (1 k, 3k, 5k, and 10k options available!) and walk or run this route with friends or family anytime during the week of Sunday, October 10th-Sunday, October 17th.

We also encourage people to note the social and/or natural history of our community and we will have a place to submit your photos and/or descriptions of what you see/hear/smell along your route. Simply tag it with #SAHarvestRun and/or post to our Facebook Event Page.


Virtual Run Route Options

If you plan to run from the Intervale, a 5K route has been plotted for you. Begin running north along Intervale road, follow the path shown on the map below, and turn immediately before the wooden pedestrian bridge near the Ethan Allen Homestead--returning the way you came.

· Intervale 5K (3.1 miles)

If you plan to begin your run from the Sustainability Academy at 123 North Street and want to run a pre-selected route, see the options below. All of these routes begin and end at SA and start by moving east along North Street.

· 10K Route (6.2 miles)

· 5K Route (3.1 miles)

· 3K Route (1.9 miles)

· 1K Route (0.6 miles)

NOTE: Remain safe at all times: observe physical distancing practices (where applicable), watch for traffic, and cross streets only at designated cross walks. Children should always be with a parent, teacher, or guardian.

We are living in different times and schools are adapting to meet the wide array of needs of our community. And yet, what remains the same is the power of community and the need to teach our children about the power of community. The Sustainability Academy community is incredibly strong and we want to do as much as possible to support families in need and provide opporutnities for all of our students to grow, thrive, and learn how to make positive change. With that goal in mind, we are continuing to plan our signature events for this coming year and ask for your support.

All fundraising and sponsorships this year will go towards funding innovative projects and educational opportunities at the Sustainability Academy. Our annual PTO budget provides funds for teacher-chosen resources, field trips, vegetable garden and outdoor classroom maintenance, community events that bring together our diverse school population, and in times of dire need - direct aid to our most vulnerable families. Through your generous contribution, SA students will engage in place-based, service-learning, and project-based adventures in and around our community. You will be helping to nurture a deep sense of justice, including anti-racism work, and change-making in our students.
