The 10K with a Cop program for the 2019-2020 school year has begun. The program in Stanislaus County had been offered to over four hundred children in thirteen separate locations. As of today, Stanislaus County’s 10K with a Cop is the largest in the nation. From September 2019 to March 2020, several individuals in local law enforcement will be volunteering their personal time mentoring/encouraging elementary school aged children (with the assistance of the assigned school staff) as each child goes from the couch to a 10K. In addition to running around the school yard, 10K with a Cop offers several lessons ranging for health/nutrition, safety, how to handle conflict, and goal setting while breaking the perceived barriers that may exist between law enforcement and the community.
Last year, the 10K with a Cop program was able to obtain over $6,000 in sponsorships to pay the registration fees of each child in the 10K with a Cop program for the Spirit of Giving 5K in the city of Modesto. We are seeking the support of the community once again in the effort to offer an opportunity for each child to participate in the large local running event.
