Running 100 miles in the antelope canyon ultra marathon in March 2020. After battling severe depression for many years after losing a girlfriend in a traumatic car accident. I want to be able to show men who are in dark places, that they can rise up and accomplish great feats and goals. I would like to raise money for this nonprofit social media platform "headsupguys " who with their free tools and info helped me get to recovery. Their description is listed below:
Depression affects millions of men every year, and is now the leading cause of disability worldwide. Unfortunately, a lot of men buy into myths about depression (e.g., it’s a sign of personal weakness, real men don’t ask for help), preventing them from reaching out to others to build the supports necessary for successfully fighting depression.
Untreated depression is one of the major risk factors for suicide. The suicide rate among men is about 3 times higher than that for women; a sad and preventable consequence of men trying to bear the burden of battling depression alone.
HeadsUpGuys is a unique online resource built to support men in their fight against depression by providing tips, tools, information about professional services, and stories of success.
Every day, more than 100 people come to HeadsUpGuys after searching for phrases such as ‘I want to end my life’.
Since launching in June 2015, HeadsUpGuys has been visited over 1,000,000 times.
