North Bay & District Student Robotics
NBDSR was created to help advance the STEAM education of students aged 6 to 19 primarily by participation in the FIRST Robotics program.
The charity helps fund the activities of over 400 primary and 30 high school aged students per year in North Bay and area.
FIRST Team 1305, Near North Student Robotics Initiative, Ice Cubed will be one of the recipients of funds from this source, as will other local progressions of FIRST including FIRST Lego Jr. (FLL Jr.), FIRST Lego League (FLL) and any new FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) teams formed in the area.
Their immediate activities and learned skills have directly impacted communities and people well beyond North Bay and Nipissing.
This is all done under the guidance of more than 50 volunteer mentors including engineers, technologists, teachers, entrepreneurs and industry people from many disciplines.
Elementary age students compete using Lego robotics. High school students design and create unique robots using CAD software, simple tools to the most advanced technology, to compete at their level.
Funds support this education enhancement experience by providing the students the tools, equipment, materials and parts.
To augment the core robotics related skill transference related activities to the core competition, additional facets in the student's scope of experience in and outside of their respective programs include collaborative learning, graphic design, research skills, safety, essay & letter writing, accounting, project management, and public presentation.
Students aged 13 to 19 undertake a number of outreach activities that promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics through such events as conferences, workshops, trade shows and interactive demonstrations. This planning, administration, and organization of events and excursions for the teams further advances their life skill development.
