EVENT: San Francisco Marathon 2014
Dear Friends and Family, I am excited to be running in The San Francisco Marathon 1st Half marathon (Yes that was kinda confusing but its a half marathon ummmm the first half of the full marathon). On July 27th, not only will I be running across the Golden Gate Bridge, but I have decided to do it as part of the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) team. The NKF is the leading organization in the U.S. dedicated to the awareness, prevention and treatment of kidney disease for hundreds of thousands of healthcare professionals, millions of patients and their families, and tens of millions of people at risk. 26 million people have chronic kidney disease and most don’t know itt. 1 in 3 Americans is at risk. The scary part is often there are no signs of kidney damage until the kidneys have failed completely. As y'all know, I received a kidney transplant from my sister (Jenny/only sister). For a year, I had to go to dialysis treatment 3 times every week for at least 3 hours at a time because my kidneys were not functioning. I needed dialysis just to stay alive. I used to take my kidneys for granted, but not anymore. After receiving one of my sister’s kidneys, I have vowed to increase my overall health and increase awareness so nobody else has to go through what I went through. I am starting this by running in The SF Marathon for the National Kidney Foundation.
