BENEFITING: A WOMANS NATION
ORGANIZER: A WOMANS NATION
EVENT: Move For Minds
EVENT DATE: May 21, 2016
Every 66 seconds a brain develops Alzheimer’s.
However, to look at this malicious disease as a statistic rather than look at the incredibly special individuals it affects (both the victim and his/ her loved ones) is to minimize both its severity and cruelty.
I had the incredible fortune of being raised by a man who ultimately passed away from Alzheimer’s, yet it is not his brain that I - and the people who loved him so dearly - remember, but his heart.
What many people don’t know is that two thirds of Alzheimer’s victims are women. A woman in her early 60’s is about two times as likely to develop Alzheimer’s than breast cancer over the remainder of her life. By 2050, 16 million brains will have fallen victim and a majority of them will belong to our mothers, sisters, daughters, and friends.
On May 21st, I will be joining men and women across the country to raise money for The Women’s Alzheimer’s Challenge, a non-profit campaign from Maria Shriver and A Woman’s Nation. (Don't act too shocked, I know I don't normally do this. The cause is that important to me.)
100% of the money raised through Move for Minds will directly fund cutting edge research on women’s brains and Alzheimer’s. My personal fundraising goal is $1,000 and I’m asking you to help me reach it (and therefore not have to pay out of pocket…because we all know how I hate to lose J and I might have gotten a late start…). ANY donation helps- $5, $10, $20, $50- and it will be greatly appreciated by me and the millions of families affected.
Thanks in advance for your help and support!
In loving memory, 1940- 2015
