Founded in the U.S. in 2009 NepalFREED (Nepal Foundation for Rural Economic and Educational Development) has built schools & provided essential infrastructure improvements for villages northwest of Kathmandu for the past 6 years. Tragically, this is one of the areas most devastated by yesterday's earthquake. Reports from the villagers state almost 97% of homes in & surrounding these villages have been destroyed, 100’s of people require medical attention, & sadly - many have lost their lives.

Jay Tamang, a native of Nepal now living in Mill Valley, CA and his brother Hira, founded the Nepal Foundation for Rural Economic and Educational Development (NepalFREED) in 2009. Here is Jay’s statement on what keeps him committed to giving back to the country he grew up in: “I believe that it is our responsibility to reach out to those less fortunate. We are determined to share our blessings with the impoverished people of the world. I invite you to join NepalFREED and become a part of a worldwide family dedicated to making a difference. Your generosity will go farther than you can possibly imagine, empowering the people of Nepal with the medical resources needed to sustain an improved quality of life and the education required for them to realize and achieve their dreams. On behalf of the Nepalese people and NepalFREED, thank you for your support.”
NepalFREED is fiscally sponsored by The Cross Cultural Journeys Foundation (CCJF), a verified non-profit 501 (3) (c) organization located in Sausalito, California.
